LPN Admission Requirements
Admission to the programs at the institution is competitive. It is our goal to graduate students who exhibit distinctive characteristics valued by the nursing profession and the health care industry. To accomplish this goal, admission criteria have been developed to provide minimum standards by which applicant suitability may be determined. Often the applicant pool exceeds the maximum number of students admitted into a program. Minimum Admission Criteria In order to be considered for admission into the practical nursing program, applicants must undertake and meet the following minimum admission criteria:
- Applicant must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Applicants are required to meet minimum skill levels in reading and math. These minimum skill levels are accessed through administration of a standardized diagnostic testing evaluation instrument developed by Health Education System Incorporated (HESI)
- Applicant must submit a high school diploma, General Education Development (GED) certificate, or an officially translated and notarized diploma from a foreign school of secondary education.
- Applicant must be able to legally study and work in the United States of America.
- Applicants must present proof of current Mantoux test, Tetanus, Hepatitis B (or a waiver immunization and other immunizations.
- Applicants must present evidence of good physical health (including a physical examination from the past six months) and documentation of fitness to work in health care.
- Applicants must provide two letters of reference. These references should relate to present or past employment or schooling. At least one letter of reference must be from an employer. Family members are not eligible to provide letters of reference.

In addition to the foregoing requirements, applicants must also be able to demonstrate the ability to meet certain minimum technical standards (the Technical Standards), including:

Meeting the minimum criteria for admission does not guarantee admission to the practical nursing program. The Center may require applicants to successfully complete or meet other conditions prior to acceptance into the practical nursing program, including but not limited to attending and successfully completing a pre-nursing course.
The foregoing technical standards must be met with or without accommodations. The institution complies with the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and will make reasonable accommodations for an application with a disability that is otherwise qualified.
Application And Admissions Process
The Admission Process has two parts: Part I - Application Procedure and Part II - Admissions Interview.
Part I - Application Procedure.
Entrance exam testers who meet the minimum requirements on the test are eligible to apply for admission into the Practical Nursing program. To apply, the applicant must:
- Complete and submit Part A and B of the Practical Nursing Application
- Demonstrate ability to meet the technical standards
- Meet the program deposit requirements as detailed below
Part II - Pre Nursing Program
After an applicant has completed the steps in Part I, his/her application will be evaluated and qualified candidates will be invited to enroll in a pre-nursing program, which is designed to provide students with the basic skills and concepts required for successful comletion of a practical nursing program. The program consists of the education in the following areas: (a)math; (b) medical terminology; (c) critical thinking and test taking; (d) nursing process, roles, and responsibilities. The program includes quizzes, tests, homework, projects, and final examinations in each subject area. This program is 48 clock hours and is offered in day and evening sessions.
Acceptance
Applicants are accepted into the program based on, among other things, their entrance and critical thinking exam results, references, pre-nursing completion, and application responses. Applicants are notified as to their status (acceptance or denial into program) by letter only. The number of accepted applicants does vary from year to year. Meeting the minimum criteria for admission does not guarantee admission to the LPN program. After an applicant has been accepted into the program, he/she must pass a criminal background clearance, execute a promissory note (if funding from Sallie Mae was not obtained) and complete an enrollment agreement and other required documentation in order to become an enrolled student. Accepted applicants will need to meet with their admission advisors to complete this process.
